After 8 long semesters, giving 100+ exams, 500+ assignments, many sleepless nights and many more such memories… You finally get your engineering degree.
Now, the question is…
Even if you’re in the 3rd or 4th year… This post will be a good read since you’ll get an idea of the tons of various career options that you have. All you need is to grab some knowledge regarding these jobs and spend some time learning the skill required in these jobs.
Having clarity about what you want to do in your life can help you in landing a successful career.
The fact is… Engineering is one of the most common career choices in India. According to the reports available, India produces 1.5 million engineers every year as opposed to 95,000 in the United States.
The country is pretty much saturated with engineers, so you have to be a brilliant engineer to actually have a good career. Another thing you can do is to start looking at other options.
And that’s what we’re going to help you with, in this post.
So without further ado, here are the 6 best career options after engineering:
1. Higher studies after BTech
A lot of students opt for this and it’s amazing. You always need to do some sort of higher studies to increase your value in the corporate sector. This also allows you to gain more knowledge about a specific industry & also a higher package usually.
There are a ton of options for higher studies after B.Tech. Engineers have the option to go for an MBA or Masters. These higher degrees allow you to become more of an expert in your specific domain.
2. Go for government jobs after BTech
You can also choose to join a PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) after your engineering.
Although the competition level for these kinds of jobs is very high, they’ll be worth studying for in the end because they offer a very good pay, security, and more. They take your GATE exam scores into consideration and release a cut-off every year.
There are multiple PSUs like BHEL, SAIL, and IOCL so if you work hard enough you’ll get in.
3. Look for internships
Internships are a great way to gain a lot of experience in a completely new field or an old one, while getting paid.
It can also often become challenging to land a full-time job in a reputed company immediately after graduating. This is exactly when you should go for an internship. Internships are an excellent means to expose yourself to the real-world working environment.
Employers are like to see a resume with a ton of internships instead of just an empty resume. Also, it’s not an uncommon thing for companies to hire their best interns for full-time roles.
4. Civil Services
Civil services are among the hottest career options. To enter the civil services, you’ll need to crack the UPSC civil services exam, which is one of the toughest examinations in the world. Experts recommend preparing for at least a year before applying. A few students even start preparing during their engineering days.
Many engineers are diverting their interests towards civil services which are the backbone of India. According to the reports, about 50% of candidates appearing for the exam are engineers. The candidate can prepare for state or central civil service examination. On clearing the written test, the candidate is selected after the tough round of interviews. The candidate is then selected for the training.
5. Get a certification
Certifications are a great thing to add to your resume. Employers love candidates who haven’t stopped their learning process even after they graduate.
